"...We're very satisfied with the kind and timely support we received during our experiments..."
Awareness Lab did several psychological experiments using multimedia stimuli and questionnaires designed in EventIDE. We also wanted to collect physiological data, using a not-so-common device that detects heart-rate. The Okazolab team developed a plug-in for this device, so we could log the online heart-rate data together with the other variables. They also helped us with an effective stress-inducing stimulus paradigm.
We're very satisfied with the kind and timely support we received during our experiments.
"... the most advanced, easy to use and versatile software for creating psychophysics experiments..."
EventIDE is already the most advanced, easy to use and versatile software for creating psychophysics experiments, with a great future in human and primate research ahead.
The workflow of the software is the pillar of its power. It’s clever organization in elements and events makes building and testing experiments extremely easy. Furthermore the ability of the software to be easily interfaced with a very large number of signal acquisition and display peripherals is a cornerstone in efficacious scientific work.
The fact that very little knowledge in coding and the existence of debug mode and code error detection makes EventIDE an adequate tool for students and uninitiated researchers alike. Okazolab provides top of the line technical assistance for developing experiments and creating new experimental setups.
"...In comparison with the other programs designed to build experiments EventIDE appears more easy and powerful at the same time, requiring less programming skill..."
Prof. Dr. Christian Keysers
In the last year in our lab we have been using EventIDE to administrate several tasks. Thanks to the wide range of options offered by this program we managed to successfully implement behavioral tasks, fMRI and EEG paradigms, and also more pioneering motion capture integrations.
EventIDE's interface is really ergonomic and accessible to all level of user's programming expertise.
Starting from the 'Experiment Templates" the best paradigm can be selected, then 'Event' and 'Element' objects provide a clear overview and easy definition of the experimental design, furthermore 'Snippets' allow to manage all the optional devices and the 'Library' to smoothly upload whatever you need. Finally debugging and error detection are easy accomplish due to preview and debug mode and every errors or paradigm adjustment can be customize by a simple double click.
Indeed OkazoLab's excellent assistance and constant updates turn the interface interaction in to a clever experience.
In comparison with the other programs designed to build experiments EventIDE appears more easy and powerful at the same time, requiring less programming skill but offering at the same time the good efficiency subsequent to high level programming
"...the management of stimulus material and peripherals is a significant improvement on other systems in the lab, especially the use of large stimulus sets..."
Dr Charlie Wilson
We have been using EventIDE for more than 2 years now to build cognitive tasks for macaque monkeys in neurophysiology experiments. We moved to EventIDE from lower level language programming and much older tools. Once we got used to the principles of EventIDE, new elements and tasks are easy to programme, and the management of stimulus material and peripherals is a significant improvement on other systems in the lab, especially the use of large stimulus sets. Management of task control elements like randomisation and condition management are very easy, compared with the hard coding we were having to do beforehand.
We use the system in conjunction with touch screens, reward systems, eye trackers, and neural recording systems, all of which have been relatively simple to integrate. With the elements provided by OkazoLab we were able to synchronise the behavioural output with our recording system with good timing accuracy. The user interface and the way in which tasks are broken down into elements are all helpful for introducing new students to the existing programmes gradually. We have found Okazolab team to be a very responsive, open to suggestions of improvements, and rapidly providing fixes to any bugs. We are therefore very happy with EventIDE as a tool, and have therefore decided to continue to use EventIDE in a new system that we recently set up.
"...this is an easy-programming tool with which one can assemble a musical experiment without using anything else than a MIDI device..."
Since half a year ago, I have been using EventIDE in a music-learning task with a MIDI-keyboard. When I started to design this experiment, I found no other program that allows one to register the output for a MIDI device at the same time of stimuli presentation. As far as I know, this is the only program that allows one to present visual and auditory stimuli, in the same experimental task in which one can demand a subject to play some notes or a melody on a MIDI device, without using another intermediate devices (as a "parallel port").
Moreover, EventIDE registers information regarding a great amount of variables as name of the note of the pressed key, duration of the key press, or the moment in which the subject started to press the key, among others. Those are really important parameters when one is measuring the musical performance of a subject. I am very happy of this colaboration with Okazolab because after some test-trials and initial adjusts, and thanks to the kind help, dedication and support of the developer, I have been able to do my experiment.
As a conclusion, this is an easy-programming tool with which one can assemble a musical experiment without using anything else than a MIDI device (with an USB-MIDI port) and the PC.
"...I found that the process of creating experiments is really easy as it only requires basic programming skills..."
At this time I have used EventIDE for one year. After a short period of using this program I found that the process of creating experiments is really easy as it only requires basic programming skills (or doesn't require any at all). The program is very complex and I haven't even explored the full range of functions. The main reason to start using EventIDE for me was the possibility to synchronize the hardware; an eye-tracking system and the portable encephalograph. But now I use EventIDE for wide range of experiments. These include short students practice, pilot testing of new paradigms and their full realizations. I highly appreciate the stability of system, the timing precision and support of the developer. These features all helped me a lot during the testing period. As a result, we have a powerful system which allows us to use different paradigms of an experiment. This makes pilot periods shorter and stimulus combinations more effective. Experiments are also unificated and stable. I would recommend EventIDE for the vast majority of psycological and physiological testing tasks.
"...The support from the members of OkazoLab has been always very friendly, fast, and efficient..."
Prof. Jacques Mehler
We are using EventIDE to perform eye-tracking experiments with infants and adults. The program proved to be a powerful tool to create complex experiments involving visual and auditory material, interacting with infants’ gaze and responding online to the performance of our participants. After some initial adjustments, the program has communicated well with the eye-tracker, and the results we are obtaining are much more detailed than with our previous software. The support from the members of OkazoLab has been always very friendly, fast, and efficient. We are very happy of our participation in the beta testing stage of EventIDE.
"...EventIDE is a very cool, useful and powerful alternative to other stimulus presentation packages..."
Vincent van de Ven, PhD
I use EventIDE in our psychophysics and transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) labs. I am very impressed with its interface and structure, its visual display of the functional elements and experiment structure (missed in other software!) are very insightful and helpful in planning, building and updating experiments. Also, the ever-cumbersome chore of debugging is made much easier with the aid of useful feedback and pointers to the faulty parts of the experiment and code. A simple experiment can be quickly built with little or no additional scripting, but the program’s scripting for more sophisticated experiments is easy to do. In short, EventIDE is a very cool, useful and powerful alternative to other stimulus presentation packages.
"...EventIDE opens a new door for studies regarding eye-tracking and language..."
Prof. Miquel Serra I Raventos
We have not yet developed research experiences with the EventIDE, since we were already analyzing some data with other programs when we knew about it. Nevertheless, in some further stages of our analysis EventIDE will be an unvaluable support, for it is a perfect application to synchronize visual data (eye movements) and verbal recordings. Given certain limitations of the Tobii software, EventIDE opens a new door for studies regarding eye-tracking and language, specially for those at a high level: reading, verbalizing a problem resolution, spontaneous description of an image…
"...I greatly appreciate the high-precision timing, the straightforward interfacing with external devices, and all those additional user-friendly options..."
Dr. J. Peters
We enjoy using EventIDE for psychophysical, eye tracking, and neuroimaging experiments. It's a complete multi-modal stimulus presentation program a lot with a beautiful user interface in which you can conveniently design your experiment (none or little programming needed!). I greatly appreciate the high-precision timing, the straightforward interfacing with external devices, and all those additional user-friendly options like the operator screen where you can online monitor performance statistics and eye-movements. EventIDE offers me all functionality to program my experiments fast and efficiently, including those posing a wide range of software requirements, which could not be easily fulfilled by the other stimulus presentation programs I've used previously.
"...EventIDE appears to be a magnificent program that allows one to develop and design almost any task in a very easy way..."
Prof. H. Super
Since one year we are using EventIDE for presenting images, audio and videos in our psychophysical and eye tracking experiments. EventIDE appears to be a magnificent program that allows one to develop and design almost any task in a very easy way without going through a burdensome learning period. We wasted almost a year to synchronize our eye tracker with our home made presentation software. With EventIDE it was very easy to synchronize our data with external hardware. We tested it and it works perfect. EventIDE allowed us to do more interesting and complicated experimental tasks. Sincerely, I belief that EventIDE is one of the best (if not the best) presentation software that exists on the market. And it is for free now!
